Research Biochemist, University of California, San Francisco

Dr. Jue Lin graduated from Fudan University, Shanghai, China in 1992. She went to Cornell University for her Ph.D., studying self-splicing ribozymes in yeast. She joined Dr. Elizabeth Blackburn’s lab for her postdoctoral training in 1999. While in Dr. Blackburn’s lab, she initially worked on various aspects of yeast telomerase regulation, including the template region of the RNA component of telomerase, discovery of a universal RNA core structure for telomerase RNA and a novel mechanism for how the protein PinX1p inhibits telomerase activity. In 2003, she, together with Drs. Liz Blackburn, Elissa Epel and Richard Cawthon, pioneered the work that showed psychological stress was associated with shorter telomere length and lower telomerase activity. Her research focuses on telomere maintenance in health and disease, using a variety of approaches, including in vitro and ex vivo cell culture models, animal models, as well as clinical studies. She currently serves as the Director of the Telomere Core in the Blackburn lab. The core has collaborated with over 90 research teams from50institutions (US and7othercountries)over the last 17years, resulting in over 150scientific papers. She is a PI of one of theU01 awards under the Telomere Research Network, a NIA and NIEHS sponsored network dedicated to facilitating the collaboration between basic telomere biologists, population and exposure researchers, and other scientists across disciplines to advance inter disciplinary research on telomeres as sentinels of environment exposure, psychosocial stress and disease susceptibility.
